Importing market data into Excel is the first step in building a trading model. Market data such as prices, volume, spreads, dividends, etc. is needed to feed a trading model’s calculations.
Manual entry or copy and paste is the most rudimentary way to get price-volume data into Excel. Simply enter prices manually, or copy them from another spreadsheet, file, or website and paste (or paste-special-values) them to the desired location in your spreadsheet.
Manual entry only works for a very limited amount of data. It works for prototyping models, doing visual data cleanup, and similar activities.
